AI & Model Usage Policy

In short

Aty uses computer vision to reconnect art to artists — not to replace them.

We do not use artwork to train generative AI models that create new artwork, imitate artistic styles, or produce derivative images. We do not sell, license, or share artwork or embeddings with third-party model developers for generative AI training.

01

Why Aty uses AI and computer vision

Aty exists to help artworks lead back to the artists who created them.

Images of art often spread online without clear attribution. Aty uses computer vision, text matching, and human review to help identify artworks, find public Sightings, and connect those images back to artists.

02

Systems we may use

Aty may use the following systems:

Perceptual hashing

Perceptual hashing creates a small fingerprint of an image so we can detect duplicates and near-duplicates.

Object detection

Object detection helps identify where artwork appears inside a larger image, such as a studio shot, gallery wall, framed work, or room photo.

Visual embeddings

Visual embeddings help Aty compare images for similarity so we can identify likely matches, duplicates, and related Sightings.

Text matching

Text matching checks captions, public usernames, artist names, aliases, and handles as additional attribution signals.

LLM-assisted extraction

Aty may use language models to parse public captions into structured artist names, handles, or other attribution clues. This is used to support matching and review, not to generate artwork.

03

Allowed uses

Aty may use these systems for:

  • re-attributing artwork to its creator;
  • visual similarity search and matching against artists’ own portfolios;
  • perceptual deduplication and clustering of near-identical images;
  • surfacing where an artist’s work appears across the public web;
  • ranking and sorting attribution candidates for human review;
  • detecting duplicate uploads within an artist’s own portfolio;
  • detecting suspected infringement or unauthorized commercial use on behalf of the depicted artist;
  • internal quality monitoring;
  • abuse prevention;
  • platform security;
  • improving non-generative attribution and matching systems.
04

Not allowed uses

Aty does not use artwork, captions, embeddings, artist names, or artist likenesses for:

  • training or fine-tuning generative AI models on stored images, embeddings, or captions;
  • style transfer;
  • style imitation;
  • “in the style of” generation;
  • image synthesis;
  • image-to-image generation;
  • producing derivative artworks;
  • selling, licensing, or sharing embeddings or images with third-party model developers;
  • training face recognition or identity recognition systems;
  • re-identifying or profiling public users beyond the attribution use case;
  • advertising targeting.
05

Third-party model developers

Aty does not sell, license, or provide artist images, captions, embeddings, or artwork datasets to third-party model developers for generative AI training.

If Aty uses third-party infrastructure or APIs to operate the Services, we will use them to support Aty’s attribution, matching, indexing, and platform functions, not to authorize generative AI training on artist work.

06

Embeddings and derived data

Embeddings are derived from images and are used for similarity search. They are not intended to reconstruct the original image.

Even so, Aty treats embeddings and similar derived data as protected platform data subject to this policy.

07

Artist trust

Aty’s purpose is to help artists be found, credited, and connected to the places their work appears online.

Our use of AI and computer vision is limited to that purpose.

08

Changes to this policy

If Aty materially changes how it uses AI or model systems, we will update this policy.

We will not quietly convert artist uploads into a generative AI training dataset.
